Ade’s journey from a seasoned Dentist in Nigeria to a dynamic Project Manager in Canada is a testament to resilience and adaptability. Ade was working as a Dentist in Nigeria, he grew in his career to become a consultant and even obtained his PhD before relocating to Canada to be with his family.

On arriving in Canada, he started the process of becoming a dentist but faced a lot of obstacles. In a bid to start earning in Canada, he secured a role as a dental assistant hoping to transition and practice as a dentist.

Confronted with the stark reality of limited growth and the disheartening task of supporting dentists much his junior, Ade sought a new direction

He very quickly realized that there was no growth in that area and didn’t appreciate the disheartening task of supporting dentists much his junior, so Ade sought a new direction. He sought some guidance from a close friend who referred him to TCA for our on-the-job training in project management.

This was the turning point as he registered for the program and started to develop the practical skills and more importantly started learning how to leverage his existing experience and capabilities to secure a Project Manager role. During the training, some friends tried to discourage him and even doubted his ability to transition into a Project Manager role. They even advised him to continue as a Dentist Assistant. But he carried on regardless believing in himself and his ability to transform his life as a Project Manager.

After a few unsuccessful interviews, he learned about a role that was closed through his wife and decided to apply regardless. Little did he know that his life was about to be completely changed. A few days after the application, he was invited for an interview. According to Ade, this interview was the best, because the interviewer was interested in his knowledge and experience from all 3 domains i.e. project management, dentistry and healthcare technology. And the program with TCA positioned him very well for this interview.

Within a week the process was concluded and Ade was offered an incredible Project Manager position within the healthcare industry – he finally proved all the naysayers wrong and you can too.

His biggest lesson and advice is that if you believe, it will be possible for you.
