Success Stories: From Customer Service to Scrum Master: Ola's Story

It always seems impossible until it is done – This is Ola’s incredible story

Ola worked as a Customer Service representative with Apple where she was earning less than $40k per annum

She knew she was capable of more and desperately wanted to achieve more.

Then she got pregnant and took her maternity leave for 12 months. During her maternity, she made up her mind that she wasn’t going to return to her previous job but would look for a better-paying job in tech. That was when she reached out to TCA, following a discussion with one of our career coaches she knew she was with the right group of people and signed up for the program.

Ola became a “sponge” and soaked up all the knowledge during the training. She put in 110% in order to learn the skills required and was very determined to tender her resignation from her old job before her maternity leave was complete.

During the program, Ola started applying for jobs with her TCA refined resume and even brought questions from her telephone interviews to our group discussions and these were adequately addressed to the benefit of others in the group. She fully leveraged the support available by connecting with her mentor and TCA’s in-house lead IT recruiter who helped optimize her LinkedIn Profile and advised her on relevant job application strategies.

In Ola’s words, This is a story of persistence because, in spite of the “unfortunately” emails and the negative thoughts, I strongly believed in myself and knew that my job is out there and as our coaches would say it is a numbers game – this kept me motivated and I kept pushing because I knew my breakthrough was just one application away or one interview away or one telephone call away or one email away – I just kept pushing.

Ola’s dream came through and she secured 2 fantastic offers – one with the Government and the other with one of the largest aircraft manufacturers in the world. One of the offers paying as much as $70k more than her previous job (btw $70k on its own is a fantastic salary). And guess what, she achieved all this before her maternity leave was over – she never had to return to her previous job!
