From Struggle to Success: How Busayo Transformed Her Career in Canada
Mar 05, 2025
When Busayo boarded a plane to Canada in 2021 for her Master’s, she felt like she had won the lottery. Back home, the belief was simple: once you travel abroad, your problems disappear. Money is easy to come by, jobs are handed out effortlessly, and within a few years, you’re building a massive house back home—one you’ll only visit once every year or two.
But reality hit hard.
Busayo soon realized that success in Canada wasn’t automatic. It required perseverance, proactivity, and faith—the kind that moves mountains.
A Harsh Wake-Up Call
After completing her Master’s, she assumed securing a job that leveraged her degree and potential would be straightforward. But despite countless applications, the only role she could land was a scheduler for personal support workers—a job that paid the bills but wasn’t the future she had envisioned.
She knew she was capable of more. She knew she had the potential to thrive. But knowing wasn’t enough—she needed the right opportunity.
When a friend introduced her to TCA, she didn’t hesitate. She immediately joined the Project Management program, recognizing it as the missing link between where she was and where she wanted to be.
The Program That Changed Everything
At first, the program felt overwhelming—like she had been thrown into a real full-time Project Manager role. But the supportive trainers, structured learning, and hands-on experience made all the difference. Working on a real-life project—the Peer-to-Peer Lending platform—helped her not just learn but apply the skills in a way that made them stick.
The real turning point? A casual chat with a friend already working as a Project Manager.
To her surprise, Busayo found herself speaking fluently in project management lingo—without even thinking about it. That was the moment she knew: She was ready.
The Job Search: Rejection, Resilience, and a Breakthrough
Busayo didn’t rush into applying for jobs—she waited for her work permit first. But once she started, she faced what so many job seekers fear: rejection after rejection.
Her first big break came with an interview for a Project Analyst role. During the interview, concepts from the TCA program surfaced naturally in her responses—things she didn’t even realize she had memorized. She wasn’t just answering questions; she was speaking from experience, with confidence and clarity.
She made it to the final round but lost the job to someone with more domain experience. Instead of feeling discouraged, she took it as a sign—she was close.
Determined to succeed, she refined her approach. She perfected her interview responses, including a killer “Tell Me About Yourself” pitch, based on TCA’s framework. Then came another opportunity—this time, for a Project Manager role.
The Interview That Changed Everything
Then she landed another interview, this time for a project manager role. She refined her approach, adjusted her responses, and walked in with confidence. During the interview, she felt like she had fumbled a bit and at the end of the interview she felt like she did not do her best. So when they requested documentation of her past work, she realised that this was an opportunity to stand out and she seized it with both hands.
She didn’t just send what was asked—she sent more.
She showcased deliverables from her TCA live project—real-world project documents auch as the Project Charter, Business and Business Requirements Document—all created during the program. Her training became her secret weapon.
And then, the email came.
She got the job—with a 50% salary increase!
Busayo’s Advice to You
Busayo’s journey wasn’t easy, but it was worth it. She went from feeling stuck in a job that didn’t align with her aspirations to landing a high-paying Project Manager role that finally recognized her worth.
Her advice?
“I know how discouraging the job search can be—the rejection emails, the self-doubt—it’s all real. But the moment you give up, you’ve lost. Instead of waiting, invest in yourself. Keep learning. Keep applying. Keep believing. Even when you feel like you don’t know enough, just try.
I had so much faith that I even bought a work table and chair in anticipation of my remote job before I got the offer. I told God, ‘You have to settle me,’ and He did. So, to anyone struggling: Your time will come. Just keep going.”
If Busayo can achieve this, so can you. It doesn’t matter how many times you’ve tried or how long you’ve been on the sidelines—your tech job is out there, waiting for you.
The only question is: Are you ready to Accelerate Your Career?
